Every time I run into bigger issues on my PC running on Ubuntu, I don't know if I should keep fixing them, or at what point it is just better to do a fresh reinstall.
Over the years (5 with my PC now) I guess I accumulated some clutter from old installations, I messed up my python/pip dependencies, etc. But I usually am able to fix problems when they arise, it just takes a lot of time, but so does a fresh install.
What is your philosophy regarding fresh install vs. updating and fixing? Are there any measures of performance/etc. that can help me eyeball if a fresh install would be worth my time? Should I do a fresh install every couple of years to improve performance even if there are no huge problems (like it was often recommended to me in my past as a Windows user)?
