How do I change the saturation of ubuntu terminal text colours on Oracle VM

The BASH terminal text colours on 22.04LTS and 24.04LTS are too dark for my eyesight. Whereas, the colours on 18.04LTS allow the text, for me, to be read more easily.

The ~/.bashrc file contains the exact same contents on all three O/S's.

There is a mention of modifying the file /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css in regards to Ubuntu 18.04LTS.

ubuntu.css is to be found on Ubuntu 22.04LTS and 24.04LTS at /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-dock@ubuntu.com/ubuntu.css, though this file appears to be an empty file.

There is a style sheet at /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-dock@ubuntu.com/stylesheet.cssCan this be used to modify the screen/text colours? What is this .css file used for?

I am aware that the screen colours are controlled by the Guest O/S and not the Host O/S.

My question is, can the colour saturation be modified on 24.04LTS or 22.04LTS to match the terminal colours on Ubuntu 18.04LTS?

I tried editing the ~/.bashrc to no avail.
