I looked at a couple of videos and searched online for possible solution, but for me it is still not clear what would be my best option to access an Ubuntu Pc from my home network from another location .

I can configure stuff of course following examples online but I am unsure what the best solution would be

Here is what I found :I have the possibility to install OpenVPN on my TpLink TL-MR6400 v4 . I need to configure DDNS from what I saw because I have a dynamic IP from my ISP and I need to store the file / credentials for the OpenVPN in order to connect via my VPN . Besides this I was also thinking to add to the mix a Wake on Lan in order to shutdown the linux machine and open it whenever I want ( is it a good idea ? )

  • what I am unsure is .. for OpenVPN do I need to use UDP or TCP ? what would be better?
  • I don't understand if I need port forwarding , I assume in this case no ...
  • Do I need to also install an antivirus on my Ubuntu like clamAV to raise even more the security ?
  • I am unsure about how secure the whole thing it will be or not ?I am willing to listen to other suggestions than the steps I just written on this post .
