Backup-strategies argument: create an Ubuntu image and a backup of a data-only folder [closed]

OS PROBLEM

I have a laptop with a single disk and a single partition running Linux Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. I would like to run an operating system image on an external USB disk every day at 1:00 am and then shut down the computer. I would like to be able to perform a system image restore using a bootable USB stick. I would like to keep only the 7 oldest OS images. At 1:00 my laptop is not used for work.

DATA PROBLEM

I would like to perform an efficient, secure, periodic, verified and incremental backup of all my personal data at least once a day, possibly at 1:00 am and then turn off the computer. The data all resides in an OS folder. The backup must also be readable by other computers. I would like to keep only the last 7 incremental data backups. At 1:00 my laptop is not used for work. For the data I am willing to accept just one backup instead of 7.

FUNCTIONS

I would like to be able to perform an OS-only or data-only restore.

SOLUTIONS FOUND

I found many solutions. Vorta, Deja Dup, Timeshift, etc… but I can't turn off the PC at the end of the backup operations.

ACCEPTED SOLUTIONS

I'm looking for free software or commented ready scripts.I'm happy to read your backup solution. On Windows I use Veeam Agent, with great satisfaction, but the Linux version is very poor and not adequate for my needs.
