My boss has decided to buy a physical Dell R350 server;we need it to run various web applications with databases. In addition to its standard equipment, i.e. a 600GB SAS HDD, we purchased 4 1TB SATA SSDs.
I would like to configure the raid 10 for the 4 SSDs because I think it is an optimal solution given my needs, and then as regards the HDD I would like to buy a second one but before doing this I necessarily need to turn on the server and make it work for work needs, so given the speed of the HDD I wanted to install Ubuntu Server 23.04 on.I tried to configure the raid from the BIOS, but for some reason my brain wasn't working well at that moment, and I put raid 10 for the 4 SDDs and the HDD in raid 0...After several attempts to start the installing ubuntu from flash I realized that I had to start another control panel called lifeclycle, from here it asked me again to carry out the procedure to do the raids, despite showing me the 4 SDDs as "1.8TB virtual disk raid 10 and the HDD "virtual in raid 0".Once this was done the procedure for copying the operating system began, so from here I was able to overcome the previous errors but when choosing the mount point it showed me "partition 1 hdd 300.999M" I think it is intended as 300999M which should be correct since I did raid 0, leaving aside this small error I selected the / on mount in ext4 but continuing to install it gives me an error...
I'm sure I'm doing a lot of things wrong as a procedure, as I've never worked on server architecture but I would like to learn how to do things well, on the Dell website there are small documents that explain something but there is no guide for these cases...
Is there anything I can start from to understand how to move in this type of specific environment?I have some knowledge of the Ubuntu environment and how it works but I would mostly like to understand what to do on the server side.
